Today I planted a marang tree and it’s maybe one of my favorite fruits that I tried so far. I sprouted the seeds from a fruit that I got from Joe in June 2020. The fruit looks like a giant green pulasan that you can tear open and it contains these white bite size blobs that melts in your mouth. The flavor is a light creamy vanilla custard with hints of ripe jackfruit. It’s very sweet and refreshing. The only caveat is that when it ripens overnight the skin of this fruit will emit a strong odor like someone spilled gasoline everywhere. it’s definitely a fruit you want to store outdoors. Marang is appropriately named Artocarpus odoratissimus which is in the same family as breadfruit and jackfruit. The tree can grow up to 80 feet in height which makes it a bit challenging to harvest the fruit. I will try to keep it as small as I can.
