One of the older established trees on the property, already about 40 feet tall a few years back.
The Basics
Jacaranda, Jacaranda mimosifolia, is a flowering tree in the family Bignoniaceae.
Origin and Habitat
Native to South America, particularly Argentina and Bolivia, and now planted as a street and ornamental tree in warm climates worldwide.
What It Looks Like
A large tree with fine, fern-like leaves that becomes covered in clusters of purple, trumpet-shaped flowers, often dropping its leaves briefly right before the bloom so the purple really stands out.
Uses and Flavor
Not a food tree — this one earns its place purely for how it looks when it’s blooming, and for the shade it throws now that it’s grown up.
Growing It Here
This is one of the older, already-established trees on the property, already around 40 feet tall a few years back, well ahead of most of the food forest’s newer plantings.
Pests and Diseases to Watch For
Nothing to report — it’s been trouble-free.
Kenta’s Take
Not every tree here needs to produce something to earn its keep. This one pays for its space in shade and a few spectacular weeks of purple every year.
