Origin and Habitat
Kumquats originate in China and have long been cultivated across East Asia before spreading worldwide as an ornamental and edible citrus.
What It Looks Like
A smaller tree than most citrus, maxing out around 15 feet, but capable of producing thousands of small, round fruit a year.
Uses and Flavor
You eat the whole thing, skin and all — tart, sweet, and sour all at once, which is the whole appeal of a kumquat over a regular citrus.
Growing It Here
A grafted variety, chosen for reliable production. Given how many fruit each tree can put out, this one could realistically supply all the marmalade we’d ever want.
Pests and Diseases to Watch For
Standard citrus pests apply, like scale and leaf miner, though nothing specific to report from ours so far.
