This is one of the best duck moments ever. The ducklings are about a week old by now. They are extremely frail for the first 10 days and a lot can go wrong. They get lost, they can drown, get eaten by rats and the mongoose especially. They can also just mysteriously drop dead. I’ve seen a whole clutch of ducklings disappear one by one before. Yea.. 😢
Muscovy ducks are really great mama ducks though. They are super protective and always shaking their tails saying something in their duck butt language. But shit happens sometimes especially during those first 10 days.
So the solution I came up with is to just capture the mama duck. Keep her relatively close to the house, and move her around in a spot with morning sun and enough shade, food, water for every duck, and all the bananas they can eat. Seems to be working.
This is the 3rd batch I’m doing it like this and I had 9 out of 10 make it the last time. We are 11 out of 11 so far.
I planted queen palm #3 today. 🌴🌴🌴
