Today I went over to my neighbor Mike’s to press some fresh cane juice. Our other neighbor Kumar said that today is the start of the Pongal in Southern India which is a 4 day festival thanking the sun god for an abundant harvest season.
A special type of cane is grown just for the festivities. Rice is cooked with milk and sugar cane and offered to the gods. Sounds yumm!
So naturally, when I got home I planted sugar cane. I think it’s the good juicy Ginger John variety that I got from Adam which came from Yuri. It’s in a pretty windy spot next to the hala tree I sprouted from seed.
Also got tons of red ruby and white grapefruits from my next door neighbor’s trees. So grateful for the abundance of fruits and great neighbors that grow food.
