Julia and I went adventuring on the Kona side this weekend. We’ve been married for 11 years now! I tell this story often, but on the day we met we built a compost pile together at a community garden in Manoa valley.
Today we planted a tree called Amherstia nobilis aka Pride of Burma which is one of the most beautiful tropical trees and has earned the title of ‘Queen of all flowering trees’. It’s a medium sized tree that has long clusters of red orchid like flowers with yellow tips. The new leaf growth weeps down with a reddish copper color and turns green.
We have 45 gallons of compost tea brewed up ready to go. Since the moon is almost full, I think I will go out tonight and drench the garden with trillions and trillions of beneficial microbes!
