Day 50: Today I planted a Maprang tree aka Marian Plum aka Plum Mango aka Plango sproute

Today I planted a Maprang tree aka Marian Plum aka Plum Mango aka Plango sprouted from a single seed that Adam shared with me last year. This is a special variety that will actually produce fruits on the rainy side of the island.

Regular mangoes do grow on the wet side but a fungal disease called anthracnose causes the flowers to rot as soon as they get rained on.

I planted the maprang right next to the mango tree we germinated in 2014. As this mango will most likely never produce… I will keep cutting it back hard then take it out completely once the maprang establishes itself.

It’s been 50 days so far planting something everyday. Only 315 more days to go!
