Native to tropical Africa, prized worldwide for its timber.
What It Looks Like
A large, long-lived tree that eventually produces valuable reddish-brown timber, similar in character to true mahogany.
Uses and Flavor
Not a food tree — grown here as a long-term wood and shade project.

We’ve got a couple of these. One sat in a pot too long, root-bound and struggling, before I finally couldn’t bring myself to compost it and put it in the ground instead, giving it a real shot rather than giving up on it.

This is a decades-long project, not a quick win — I won’t see this tree’s real payoff, but I like knowing it’s in the ground instead of the compost pile.
