Planted this one during a full day of harvesting cinnamon and turmeric for the first time, with somebody’s birthday going on at the same time. That’s kind of how it goes here, a tree goes in the ground in the middle of everything else happening. We’re now up to three common mulberries plus a Turkish mulberry, and all of them need heavy pruning. During season we pick pounds at a time and usually cook it down into a sugary reduction for pie.

Not every planting gets its own dedicated day, some just happen alongside a harvest and a birthday party, and that’s a fine way for a tree to go in the ground too, especially one that pays us back in pie.
