Today I planted a loquat tree in the middle of a crazy squash patch. This loquat is a grafted variety called Obusa. In Japan it has been cultivated for over a thousand years and it’s called biwa. The Japanese make tons of value added products with loquat. We made some pretty good jelly from it in the past.
The squash is a volunteer from Hilary’s compost pile. I can’t believe it’s from just one plant as it’s taken up a lot of room. We usually don’t bother planting anything from the circubit family because of the damned pickle worms aggresively stinging the young fruits but it seems like we’ll have several home grown squash this year.
