Today I planted another pomegranate along the fence line. I found out which variety this is and it’s a ‘Vietnamese pink’. Did some research and it seems like the seeds may be hard on this one, but its one that can handle our humidity and produce fruits. Ideally you’d want a Mediterranean or California climate to grow good pomegranates but having a decent pomegranate is better than not having pomegranate at all. We can grow all kinds of unusual things here in Hawaii like apples, peaches, and pears but we didn’t plant any (yet). We planted about 10 plum trees for umeboshi making, and our thornless blackberry vine is going bonkers with fruits this year. I also up-potted some marang trees as they’ve been hanging out in small pots for a while now.
