Today we planted some peanut sprouts that we got from Donna. It’s been a while since we planted a patch of peanuts in the garden. I think last time we tried we were successful but the fire ants got into them. We have the fire ant situation somewhat under control at our place but more and more properties in Laupahoehoe are getting infested.
Since fire ants are protein eating ants, peanut butter is used as an attractant. It’s around that time of year here when the fire ant population starts to explode due to the hot weather and abundant moisture.
Tomorrow I’ll be mixing up some fire ant bait which is the only insecticide we will mess around with at our farm.
