Today I planted another 200 or so white pineapples. We ate a lot of pineapples this summer and there are only a handful left to pick. We always save the tops for replanting. You basically have to twist the whole thing off without damaging the base. You just stick that in the ground and keep it well watered and it will grow.
After 2 years each pineapple plant will produce a single fruit and will shoot out around 4 to 6 keiki at the bottom of the fruit which are also called slips. These will grow but eventually falls off to make contact with the ground. They easily break off at every stage of growth. The slips are primarily what I am replanting now. There must be about 800 more keiki this year to plant.
Next year we will probably have around 700 fruits and maybe 3000+ keiki to replant.
