Today I planted a madu, or honey mango (Mangifera lalijiwa) that I got from Joe. This is a mango from Indonesia and since it is resistant to anthracnose the flowers won’t rot in the rain and it will produce fruits here on the wet side. I love mango A LOT and I’m stoked we have three anthracnose resistant mangifera going now, lalijiwa, kasturi and rubropatela. Lalijiwa produces a medium sized mango and is apparently sweet like sugar cane juice. The skin stays green when it’s ripe. Getting excited with all the possibilities with mango.
Joe gave me a polyembryonic seedling that produced multiple sprouts. I didn’t know that one mango seed can have up to 20 embryos. I potted up the four bonus seedlings. I read that these can start producing fruits in 2 to 4 years.
