Today I planted a Nauclea latifolia aka Ndea or African peach. Joe gave me a couple plants that he got from fellow tropical fruit collector Lukas. As the name suggests this tree comes from the African tropics but it is growing in the savannah where it is hot and dry. This is a really new fruit to Hawaii scene along with Nauclea xanthoxylon which I planted a few weeks ago.

Believe it or not, this fruit tastes like artificial strawberry flavoring. Which is probably my most favorite artificial food flavor if I had to choose one. And think of all the possibilities with this fruit in combination with milk chocolate!? I can’t wait to try one out!

I planted the tree as the sun was going down. There were actually two plants in one pot. So I’ll have to dig up the smaller one and plant it somewhere else tomorrow.
