Today I planted a grafted kai maprang tree that I got from Joe. Maprang is a fruit from Southeast Asia and it is a relative of mango and cashew. They are also called plum mangoes and the ripe fruits have a mango like taste and can be somewhere between sweet and sour. You can eat the entire fruit skin and all. The young leaves of this tree is also edible. When the maprang fruits are still young and green they can be sliced thin and turned into a spicy salad or pickled to enjoy with savory dishes.

I’m very thankful for the bounty the land provides and nourishes us. I made some ‘ulu mash to be served with gravy from the breadfruit we harvested. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
