Today I planted a bunch of maile which is a fragrant native vine used for lei making. The scent of maile reminds me of graduation season, weddings, and May day celebrations in Hawaii.
Maile grows really slow when they are small. Maybe about a foot in the first year. After doing some research online the commercial growers like to plant them in a pair so that they can wrap around each other for mutual support to grow vertically. Aww…
