Day 104: Today I planted a Queen palm sprouted from seed, well... three of them in a clus

Today I planted a Queen palm sprouted from seed, well… three of them in a cluster. I’ll keep the healthiest one in a month or so. It’s the first of 8 that I plan on planting in a straight line along the driveway.

For now we’ll grow them at 10 feet spacing, but if they end up growing big we will remove 4 of them to achieve 20 feet spacing. The front side of our property is really dry, sunny, and can be extremely windy and it’s been a real challenge to get any trees going. For a while I’ve put this whole area on the back burner. But now it’s seems like I have to deploy every technique I learned to establish a healthy regenerative ecosystem here.

Yesterday we harvested our very first artichoke that we grew. Julia made a honey mustard butter sauce and we enjoyed every petal down the heart. Tonight we had some sweet corn for dinner. This time around the corn had zero caterpillar damage!
