Today I planted a snake fruit aka salak which is an extremely thorny short stemmed palm from Java and Sumatra. It thrives in the shade of the forest in moist and swampy areas. The skin of the fruit resembles snakeskin which is how it gets its name.
I’ve actually never tasted one yet, but Julia tried one at Frankie’s nursery on Oahu and she is a big fan. It apparently tastes really sweet and also sour like a pineapple but perfectly balanced. We’re interested in planting more, so if anyone knows where I can find seeds or even try the fruit let me know!!!!!
