Today I planted two Wild jack trees (Artocarpus hirsutus) that I got from Joe. It’s an Artocarpus so it’s related to breadfruit and jackfruit. In India they are called aini or anjili chakka and in Kerala it’s grown everywhere as the quality of wood is comparable to teak and parts of the tree are used as ayurvedic medicine since ancient times. The fruits are a big bonus and yeah they look strange. Kind of like a giant orange rambutan. I haven’t tried one yet but I read somewhere that it tastes sweet and slightly sour.
It dawned on me that a 1/3 of the year has passed. This year I planted way over 100 trees and other random plants in the ground every day. I’m definitely running out of good spots for big trees unless I explore options in wild pig territory. But I’ve been getting lots of words of encouragement from friends. There is no stopping now.
