Today I planted an Achacha (Garcinia humilis) that I got from Dash. Achacha is originally from the Bolivian Amazon basin and is a close relative of mangosteen. The native name achachairu means ‘honey kiss’. I haven’t tried one yet but I read that it tastes similar to mangosteen but tart and slightly sour like lilikoi and lychee. Unlike mangosteen the rind has no bitterness to it so it can be blended in water and drained to make a refreshing drink. The trees grow slow like mangosteen but it starts bearing fruit in 4 to 5 years instead of 10.
