Today I planted an Arazá which is what I planted on day 1 this year. An appropriate tree to kick off the 2nd half of 2021. Arazá (aka araçá-boi) is a tree from the Western Amazon rainforests and it produces a sour fruit with a ph as low as 2.4. It apparently makes great juices, jams, and ice creams with an exotic and refreshing taste. It is related to grumichama also known as Brazil cherry.

The first tree I planted lost all of it’s leaves at one point and I thought it didn’t make it. Luckily, it made a bunch of new growth and now its looking good. This tree I planted today is actually a selected species from Iquitos called Eugenia stipitata spp. sororia, and of course it was Joe who shared this tree with me..
