Over a month ago I received two boxes of cannonball fruits from Orlando and Sui and it didn’t seem to be ripe yet. Today I cracked another one open and the shell separated from the flesh easily. The fruit seemed to be ready because it had very defined segments and the inside was soft. I didn’t have the courage to taste it though. The seeds were more developed than the previous attempt so I decided to try to sprout them again. This time I think it will work!
I also had a full pot of white guava sprouts so I divided them up into tubes. This came from just one fruit that I got at Ken’s farm. At our place we have the common pink guava, strawberry guava (waiwi), and pineapple guava growing wild in the unmanaged areas. We sometimes make jelly and jam out.
After waiting about 7 years, this is the first year our white sapote tree produced fruits but only small clusters of tiny ones. I let one ripen on the counter for a few days and I tried white sapote for the first time. It definitely has a nice lemon cream custard taste that I heard so much about. But it also had somewhat of a bitter avocado aftertaste near the skin. Maybe when they get bigger I won’t taste that part. Either way… I like it a lot!
The white pineapple harvest is peaking now. I harvested a bunch of mini 2 to 3 pound ones. There is still about 80 more to harvest in the field.
