Today I planted a aguaí guaçú (Pouteria gardneriana) a mysterious fruit related to egg fruit, abiu, and mamey sapote. It’s from Brazil and found in Paraguay and also Uruguay. Another exotic tropical fruit tree via Joe, and he thinks this could be another winner in the Hawaii fruit scene. It’s also a popular fruit in it’s native habitat but very little is known about it.
I couldn’t really find any info on this one and there’s not even a Wikipedia page for it. I’ve read conflicting reviews as describing it as tasting excellent, to agreeable, to disagreeable.
Joe mentioned that he heard from someone that it was good and it was like durian. And that explains a lot. If the fruit resembles anything like durian that is super exciting.
