Today I planted an ‘iliahi, the Hawaiian sandalwood. This is one of six that I got at the state nursery plant sale. Sandalwood is extremely difficult to grow. I don’t think the one I planted around June made it.
Everyone’s been talking about the eclipse last night. We watched it too. I think the whole state got lucky with clear skies! We resumed our festivities over at the Mauna Kea state recreation park. The skies are clear we got lucky with the weather again. At 6500 feet elevation it’s not as cold as we thought it would be. But I’m wearing my thermal underwear.
Coincidentally the cabin we rented is named ‘Iliahi! The weather can be harsh here year round. Cold, windy, dry, hot but for some reason the ‘iliahi prefers growing in this environment. If we’re lucky we’ll get some sandalwood growing at our place too.
