Plant Profile: Ooray

Got this one from Ken Love’s HTFG plant sale, same trip where I picked up salak, orange durian, and araza.

The Basics

Ooray is one of the rarer species in our collection.

Origin and Habitat

Not much documented yet from our own experience with this species.

What It Looks Like

The tree finally started producing this year, and the fruit looks like a small plum at first glance.

Uses and Flavor

Extremely sour by all accounts. There’s something fun about the way it drops to the ground exactly when it’s ready, and nothing ever seems to bother stinging it once it’s down there.

Growing It Here

Got this one from Ken Love’s HTFG plant sale, the same trip where I picked up salak and araza. Glad I don’t have to wonder about the fruit anymore now that it’s actually producing.

Pests and Diseases to Watch For

Nothing to report so far.

Kenta’s Take

Some of the best finds come from a single good plant sale trip. This is one of a whole batch from that day, and it’s nice finally getting to see what it turns into.
