Today I planted six Tongan spinach or bele cuttings that Miller and Thao brought from their garden on Oahu. It’s the most nutritious vegetable from Oceania that you can eat like spinach. People wrap meat and fish in bele leaves and steam it in coconut milk. You can apparently use them like grape leaves to make dolmas too.
If you’ve never been to Wing Ice Cream Parlor before in Honolulu Chinatown you should. It’s where the cool kids go to get ice cream late at night. Miller creates the most eclectic flavors like tom kha, kinako, and cheezits. He made a special batch of ice cream with our coconut milk chocolate and keawe flour from Waianae. If you have a chance go and grab a scoop or three from Wing and lmk what you think!
